Mezzo-Soprano Rebecca Luttio, hailing from Seattle, Washington, and Semifinalist in the 2024 Covent Garden Opera Competition, embarked on her musical odyssey as a dancer with the Pacific Northwest Ballet, gracing the stage in Seattle Opera's Nutcracker at the tender age of ten. A dance scholarship recipient, she attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, where she serendipitously began her operatic training and developed a passion for the genre. Her pursuit of opera led her to the esteemed New England Conservatory in Boston, where she earned a master's degree in vocal performance and took on leading roles in all the main-stage opera productions. Before even graduating, Rebecca secured a professional engagement with the Chicago Opera Theater as the lead in La Tragédie de Carmen and showcased her acting prowess in Harvard University's acclaimed American Repertory Theater production of Cardenio.
Post-graduation, Rebecca joined the Florida Grand Opera's Young Artist Program, shining in numerous principal roles, including "Zerlina" in Don Giovanni and "Nicklausse" in Les Contes d'Hoffman. Selected by artistic director Lorin Maazel, she performed at the Castleton Festival in Virginia, notably as "Lucretia" in The Rape of Lucretia. She also made a triumphant return to the Chicago Opera Theatre as "Medea" in Giasone, earning critical acclaim.
Now residing and teaching in Minneapolis, Rebecca continues to enchant in concerts, oratorio, and local opera productions. Her recent video recordings reveal her readiness to embrace the more challenging, dramatic mezzo roles, particularly those demanding a bel canto style and robust upper register. Her latest performances in Minnesota have elicited enthusiastic praise from audiences, with accolades such as "What an incredibly sumptuous and warm vocal color!" and "She possesses a superstar presence that lights up the stage!" highlighting her intuitive acting and natural stage presence.
